"Greetings Star!"        Our History

In Jamaican patois it is very common for someone to be called ‘star’. It is a name placing great respect and honour on the individual to whom it is given. However, to those involved in Christian reggae music, ‘star’ means much more. It is an acronym for “Salvation Truth Alliance of Reggae”. STAR is a uniting of forces and gathering of instruments and voices preparing to plant seeds of faith by the hearing of the spoken Word, in a righteousness reggae style. STAR began in 1997 during a phone conversation between a musician and Travis Freedman, the DJ of “TC Express”, the first American radio show livicated to conscious Christian reggae. Both having many contacts in the Christian reggae community and knowing that many did not know of each other, they decided to create a network of similar minded people. Inspired by The Most High and Reggae Ambassadors Worldwide (RAW), the network would help them in their own efforts and sharing with others in theirs. We hope this network will prove to be encouraging to all involved.

STAR on the web was created by Mark Ragsdale in 1998, and soon after he took over the administration of the network. STAR has grown by leaps and bounds in the past years with members in countries of almost every continent. Now with a dedicated server, STAR hopes to have more of an impact on the world for the cause of Christ.

STAR was created because so many talented people are out there struggling as individuals in the Christian Reggae genre. As one individual he or she may be weak, but if we unite together in one Spirit (Eph 4.4-6), with Jah as our foundation (1 Cor 3.10-11), we will become a force to be reckoned, fitted to preach the Word. Christian artist of all genres need to stop looking at each other as competition and grasp the reality that we are a family, all bredren and sistren, sharing the same vision, struggling for the same goal (Heb 12.1-3).

So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God" (Rom. 10:17)
For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written,The just shall live by faith. (Rom. 1:16)
We have set out to promote Christian Ska, Reggae and World Music as a way of forwarding the Gospel of Grace in Christ throughout the world. We desire to encourage and build up others in their ministries and careers by creating a practical and useful network of all involved in this realm of music. We believe that knowledge, wisdom and accountability resulting from the study (2 Tim 2.15) of Jah's Word (Psalm 12.6-7, 2 Tim 3.16-17) are crucial for all music ministers (and all believers), "so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work." (2 Tim 3.17).
STAR is built on the foundation of the Most High Jah and the Gospel of our Lord and Saviour, Yeshua the Messiah (1 Cor 3.11). Our purpose is to provide fellowship, support and promotion for reggae music ministers and to preach the Word, using reggae music. Our goals are firm, yet our structure is loose. STAR is a nondenominational, non-profit organization that is a partnership among all who wish to become involved, contribute and become members.
Anyone who is involved with Christian Ska, Reggae and World Music, whether you are a performer, musician, DJ, VJ, MC, manager, record label, pastor, promoter, vendor, bookstore owner, booking agent, songwriter, missionary, teacher, dancer, computer programmer or simply a reggae fan. The list goes on and on. Basically there are only three requirements to join. First, you must believe on the death, burial and resurrection of Jah's only Son, Yeshua (1 Cor 15.3-4), who is "The Way, The Truth and The Life..." (John 14.6). Second is to have a passion to forward the message of Yeshua through ska, reggae and world music. Third is to become actively involved in STAR (there are many ways).
STAR is a worldwide network of bredren and sistren who all share the above vision. If you are a fan, you can connect with Christian reggae bands that you have never heard of before. If you are an artist, you can find other reggae musicians to join your band, you can find record companies and places to perform and new fans to share your music with. All STAR members will have a kindred spirit with each other and Lord willing, there will be a great sense of unity (John 13.35, 14.19-21). Starting with the STAR Yahoo Group, you can contact and build relationships with other STAR members. In addition to this, there is a forum for reasonings and several clubs and groups to get involved with. Our desire is that The Lord uses the fellowship of STAR as a way to better equip each of us to carry out His will in our lives and our communities.
Anyone can join STAR absolutely free of cost. We have established this network as a ministry and not as a business for profit. There are no membership fees and no financial obligations for anyone who joins. Simply follow the link below to the STAR Yahoo Group so you can start networking, connecting and sharing in this reggae fellowship.
From the inception of STAR we have wrestled with the concept of membership fees. We are not out to make money, yet we still have business and office expenses that need to be covered. After much prayer and discussion, we came to the conclusion that STAR must be free for all. We cannot put a price on the Gospel, nor can we limit fellowship to those with finances. With this in mind, STAR is presently completely supported by the love offerings and donations of those who believe in what we are doing and have been blessed by out efforts and also by sales in the STAR Store. If you feel the Lord leading you to support us at the point of membership, or even later on, then give thanks! Jehovah Jireh! If you do not, or have insufficient funds, then please do not be discouraged from joining. Just like the Gospel of Yeshua Messiah, it's FREE! (Romans 5.18, 6.18)

We can either choose to act or let this opportunity pass us by. As STARs, we have chosen to act and make a difference through Christ, and through no effort of our own, we have salvation and have been sanctified (set apart and made holy by His free grace) and have become justified through faith, by believing what Jah has said, and become children of the Most High, without fault in this crooked and depraved generation (Phil 2.15). Some of today’s reggae music promotes slackness (sexual talk), drug abuse, idolatry, violence and even disrespect of the Most High Jah. It is in this darkness that we have been given the opportunity to shine like stars, reflecting the glory of the Creator, and turning many towards righteousness (Dan 12.3). We have chosen to represent Christ, not as secret agents, but as ambassadors! (2 Cor 5.20)
